HOW YOU CAN BECOME AN ASHI MEMBER
To become an ASHI member, you must become an ASHI Instructor. With the ASHI Instructor Development Course, you can become an authorized ASHI Instructor, even if you have little or no teaching experience! Workplaces can also form their own ASHI Authorized Training Centers for the training and certification of their own employees!
Instructor Development Course: $250-320 per student depending on qualifications (16-25 hours DOQ)
Provides detailed information and proven teaching methods for conducting classes by adults for adults. Guides the candidate step-by-step through instructional techniques, conducting skill sessions, and role-playing exercises, known as "teach-backs", where the candidate demostrates his or her progress. Course conducted by an authorized ASHI Instructor Trainer.
Completion of professional-level CPR and Basic First Aid are prerequisites to the Instructor Development Course (IDC). Completion Cards from ASHI, American Heart Association, American Red Cross, National Safety Council, or Medic First Aid are acceptable.
The fee for the IDC for a candidate with the prerequisites of CPR, AED, and Basic First Aid is $250.00; all fees include the Instructor Guides for both levels (Community and Professional) of CPR and Basic First Aid (ASHI textbooks and Instructor Guides for both levels of CPR also contain the course material for the Automated External Defibrillator, or AED). A 3-year membership in the American Safety and Health Institute as a Basic Instructor is also included upon acceptance of the candidate's application for membership by ASHI. For the candidate not possessing the prerequisites of CPR, AED, and/or Basic First Aid, the course fees are $280.00 to add Basic First Aid, $290.00 to add CPR and AED, or $320.00 for all courses.
Besides CPR and Basic First Aid, ASHI Basic Instructors can teach a wide variety of other Basic Programs: Bloodborne Pathogens, Emergency Oxygen Administration, Pet First Aid, Child and Babysitter Safety (CABS), and the Emergency Medical Response program (a combination of Adult CPR, AED, Basic First Aid, Emergency Oxygen Administration, Advanced Airway Management and Advanced Assessment Techniques), which is an ideal program for a workplace environment. A Basic Instructor can also teach the programs of the ASHI Safety Series, which include Forklift Operator, Hazard Communication, Material Safety Data Sheets, and High-Rise Fire Safety, along with other helpful safety programs.
Instructors are also required to be affiliated with an authorized ASHI Training Center before they can certify students or issue Completion Cards. The Instructor may choose to affiliate with any ASHI Authorized Training Center which will accept him or her, or, the Instructor may apply to ASHI to form his/her own Independent Training Center. There are NO franchise fees nor royalty payments involved to open or operate a Training Center; your Membership Card is ALL you need. Additional costs may vary according to the course(s) the Instructor wishes to teach (such as manikins for CPR, First Aid supplies, AED trainers, etc.). ASHI textbooks can be purchased from either the ASHI National Office in Holiday, Florida, or through one of many ASHI Business Partners (a complete list of Business Partners is available on the ASHI website at www.ashinstitute.org.) Completion Cards can only be purchased through the ASHI National Office or an Authorized ASHI Distributor. Also, with the required membership fee, authorized Instructors and Instructor Trainers from the American Heart Association, American Red Cross, National Safety Council, or Medic First Aid are invited to become ASHI members through reciprocal agreements.
Renewal of membership requires the Instructor to teach a minimum of one class per year for each of the 3 years of membership, as well as a fee of $15.00 for a 3-year renewal of ASHI membership.
